Pallbearer: The artwork of 'Heartless'

Pallbearer: The artwork of 'Heartless'

Initially formed in 2008, Pallbearer grew from the fertile underground metal scene of Little Rock, Arkansas - releasing their debut full length ‘Sorrow and Extinction’ in early 2012. The record made an immediate and immense impact on die-hard doom fans and metal critics alike, also forming the four piece fans outside of the metal scene. Hailed by Rolling Stone as the #1 metal album of 2012, the album also received the coveted ‘Best New Music’ stamp of approval from Pitchfork and landed the band on end of year lists at SPIN and NPR.‘Heartless’ was recorded entirely to analogue tape at…

The Satanic Temple's Salem Art Gallery, with Blood-Painting Surrealist VINCENT CASTIGLIA, Present 'Sanguine Spring'

Salem Art Gallery - the headquarters and cultural center of The Satanic Temple, Salem, MA (64 Bridge St.) - is pleased to present "Sanguine Spring", a selection of large-scale paintings, limited editions and sculpture by world renowned artist VINCENT CASTIGLIA. The exhibition is inspired by the idea that Romans viewed February as a time of purification and honoring one's ancestors. Ritualized bloodletting, purging, and celebrations of opulent excess often accompanied observances such as Lupercalia, Parentalia and Feralia in February to expel the vestiges of winter. Castiglia's art, created…

HEXVESSEL release concert short film

HEXVESSEL release concert short film

In early 2016 HEXVESSEL released their 3rd album “When We Are Death”, praised by media worldwide. Prog Magazine UK called it “a vision quest filled with wonder and baleful energy” and Kerrang honored it with a 4K review: “Marrying the retrofied experimentalism of King Crimson to the hazy musicality of Hawkwind…” The band simply calls it psychedelic forest folk. One of the many live gigs in support of the new album was at the Menuo Juodaragis Festival in the national forest of Lithuania. The band brought Finnish filmmaker (and former Sentenced drummer) Vesa Ranta to film this special event for…

WINTERSUN: The story behind 'The Forest Seasons'

WINTERSUN: The story behind 'The Forest Seasons'

'This album is more primitive and organic than I normally like to do, but still modern, melodic, epic, bombastic yet also dark -  and dare I say even shocking and we love it! It is new and different, because I don't like doing the same thing over and over, but it's still very much a WINTERSUN album - although WINTERSUN can be anything, even techno/trance/pop... There are no limits with the music of WINTERSUN!

It is a longer album than »Time I« running over 53 minutes and for once I'm 100% happy with the sounds and the production. The sound fits PERFECTLY for this album! This album actually…

MEMORIAM: Artist Dan Seagrave talks 'FOR THE FALLEN' cover

The secret has been lifted! Old school death metallers, MEMORIAM, are set to unleash their debut album. The album's impressive artwork was created by Dan Seagrave (Benediction, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Suffocation and many more).

Dan Seagrave stated on the cover artwork: "Starting from the bands thoughts on visualising a kind of funeral procession with a theme of combat, war and in conjunction with the title 'For the Fallen'. As with all my works, I then attempt to make the information evolve in my minds’ eye, and allow imagination to take over those elements. But retaining the core concept. The…

Top Ten Best Metal Album Covers from 2016

Top Ten Best Metal Album Covers from 2016

One year of great albums and artwork behind us. What frightens me a bit, is a fact that people born in 2000 are now turning 17! I feel like getting a bit old but nevertheless, goodbye 2016 and hellcome 2017. I hope we can enjoy even better music and art than last year.

After struggling decision process combined with a huge amount of liqueur and coffee I have gathered my top 10 list of best album covers from 2016.  Past years I’ve chosen 25 of them but now I didn’t want to let myself so easy.

See the following list in random order from artists Anaal Nathrakh, Asking Alexandria, Charred Walls…
