Hetroertzen

Sacred is the legacy of the Serpent

Hetroertzen is a Black Metal band formed in Chile, now located in Västerås, Sweden that was created back in 1997 by Frater D. as his solo studio project. Even though it was really a solo project, Frater D. decided to make a band of it and thus Åskväder joined as a guitarist in September of 1999. During their first ten years of existence, a couple of albums were recorded and a handful of gigs were performed in their homeland of Chile.

HMA: Who are Hetroertzen? Looking back… why Black Metal?

Anubis: Hetroertzen is Deacon D. (drums, additional vocals) who started with this name as a solo project in 1997. Åskväder; Guitars. Anubis; Guitars and Vocals and Ham on the bass. At first we decided to play Black Metal since this style seemed to be the most spiritual and deepest when it comes to express our feelings and poetry. We looked upon darkness in music and art, searched for it and black metal just filled our desires.

HMA: What is the ‘Uprising of the fallen’? In this context who are the fallen?

Anubis: The album concept is taken and inspired on ‘The Book of Revelation’ or ‘The Apocalypse of John’ which is about the last days of the world as we know it. The fallen are the renegades, the dead and then resurrected. The expelled from all grace. Uprising is a way of rebellion. Turning your back to the world as it is and shine strong like a new dawn.

HMA: Do you feel the artwork is a good representation of your music?

Anubis: Absolutely. It represents most of the tracks involved as a part of a puzzle. It reflects the lyrics and the rest of the artwork as well.

HMA: Inspirations that have made it to record; perhaps music, art or book worth mentioning?

Anubis: We create our tracks in the rehearsal place where we also record as soon the songs are ready. Everything just comes fluently and we naturally spare the best we can give and remove those parts we are not totally satisfied with. It is difficult to say if there is a band to mention as a part of our inspiration, since this comes from other sources, not necessarily music. Some classic bands that always are there when we meet are of course the old Mercyful Fate and Judas priest between many others, but this does not mean we sound like them, or want to be compared with them.

HMA: On Metal Archives under lyrical theme we have ‘The Exaltation of the Serpent & Luciferian Magick’. Can you tell us more and why is important?

Anubis: Simply because our core is strongly related with mystic and occultism. This gives us the force and inspiration to write our texts and our music. For all of us, it is a way of freedom, enlightenment, and development. It is taken very seriously by every one of us at every moment and this can be felt and perceived when listening to our music or watching our shows. It is in our blood like a flame that cannot be extinguished.

HMA: Lastly, to you what does it mean to be creative?

Anubis: To try breaking the boundaries of the material world and be released in order to make a link with the unknown and take part of that force which is later manifested as pure art. We hold no limits back and the only rule we respect is the true will inspired by all things that don’t belong to men.
