Origin

Believe in what you do is real

For 20 years, Origin has engaged a full-blown sensory assault of tight, taut, and technical death metal amplified by flashes of grindcore and groove. However, 2017’s ‘Unparalleled Universe’ sees the quartet strengthen that blueprint with a handful of surprises.

It feels like an Origin album, but its unparalleled to what you might expect if you haven’t heard us for 10 or 15 years" says Ryan. "To me, it's a true reflection of ourselves. I compare it to an action movie. Our earlier material is filled with action from beginning to end. Now, the idea is to add a little more depth and dynamics. You could say there are some twists in the plot musically.

It's our 7th full-length album ‘Unparalleled Universe’ and the first time in our history that we have the same lineup in consecutive albums. I personally feel that it's a continuation of what we have always been doing with the addition of some new elements to give our albums some diversity

Most are familiar with the fact we have been a band that has been working in different states for over 15 years now. I pretty much write demo material to a click track than on opposing weeks I’ll Skype with my bassist and drummer so we get an understanding of what we all are feeling from the material. We had about 8 demos of songs about 20 minutes of material before we all got together for 10 days to rehearse & create/develop the songs into what we felt was a good representation of our music. Then we had 14 days in the studio to track it all.

The cover was created by Filip Ivanović from Montreal. He does a lot of work for major Montreal festivals and bands. Very happy with what he created. We didn't give him much to work with but a few ideas and his personal interpretation of origin. I feel we usually do something that creates a question of what does it all mean on most of our albums. Sometimes personal interpretation goes long ways to the listener.

For me, I’ll usually go for the sci-fi thriller influence such us the cosmos, the demon-haunted,  the world, a brief history in time, Origin of the species meets Ridley Scott.
