The Chthonic Rituals By G.
Atavisma is a Death/Doom Metal band which was formed at the end of 2013 by G. (guitars, lyrics) and L. (vocals, lyrics). They quickly released their demo “Where Wolves Once Dwelled” in early 2014 through Dead Center Productions (MCD) and Nihilistic Holocaust (Tape), followed in 2015 by a split with Maur on Atavism Records. They were joined by C. on drums and W. on bass and started playing all around France, and released a 7” EP called “On the Ruins of a Fallen Empire” through Blood Harvest Records. C. left the band, replaced by G.D. and the band recorded their debut album “The Chthonic Rituals”, released in July 23rd through the Spanish label Memento Mori. Finally, W. left the band after their Spanish tour and were joined by J.B. on bass duties.
Our debut album, ‘The Chthonic Rituals’ was released on Memento Mori on July 23rd and it has met great critical acclaim from the media and the public, of which we’re very proud of since it took us almost four years to complete all the songs on it.
The songwriting was what took most of the time. All the songs were written in a span of four years and before recording them we played them live to see how the public reacted to them. As for the recording process, it took us two weeks to record and mix the album in the Mannaz Records studio near Paris. Although the completion of the album took us a lot of time, every song was more or less very quickly written and composed, always done when the inspiration struck me at its peak. Sometimes in dreams, in moments of sheer boredom or during hallucinated moments in my life.
We were inspired by a lot of media outlets, besides music, and one that comes to mind quite immediately is Cormack McCarthy’s The Road, the book as well as the film adaptation by John Hillcoat. Aesthetically and visually it suits our music and artwork without a doubt.
Other than that, musically, we’re inspired by a lot of classic death metal bands like Incantation, Entombed, but also doom bands such as Ataraxie, Winter… And other various genres of music as well.
