Verminosis by Tibor Hanyi & Joe Knight
Crypworm is a death metal band formed by Tibor Hanyi (vocals, guitars) and Joe Knight (drums) in 2014 when Tibor moved from Hungary to the United Kingdom. Our first demo got released by Goatprayer Records in 2017 and followed up with the 2018’s “Verminosis” 7” EP released by Me Saco Un Ojo Records. A split is coming soon with Archaic Tomb released by Blood Harvest Records. The band is currently working on their newest MLP. We opened for bands like Anatomia, Spectral Voice and Blood Incantation.
Our latest release is a 7” EP entitled “Verminosis” released by Me Saco Un Ojo Records last April. It’s death metal inspired by bands like Abhorrence, Grave. We wanted to capture a putrid atmosphere with our recordings like the early death metal demos. No triggers, no metronome and down-tuned dirty guitar sound. Cryptworm is really raw, foul and disgusting death metal. Cryptworm is simply an old school death metal band a no bull shit approach. Nothing clean, tight or polished, just rough, sloppy and raw.
When our demo got released Jesus contacted with us that he is interested in the band’s upcoming recordings so we quickly put together and recorded these 3 songs within 4 months I think so the writing process fast compared to us. We usually mess around a lot when it comes to songwriting.
I was actually really excited when MSUO got in touch with us as they are a label I really admire. It really gave Cryptworm a clearer vision for the future, as up until that point we didn’t really know where we were going.
All of our lyrics are about death. They are usually just my grotesque imaginations like the song Gutswamp which is about to die in a swamp of corpses or Verminosis which is about getting eaten alive by worms. And some of them are about torturing methods from the past. That’s something that I like to read about a lot. Songs like Gruesome Death which is about sawing in half and Rotting Casket which is a nastier one. It’s about scaphism. If you look it up this was one hell of torture. I definitely going to write some more lyrics about different torture methods on later releases but one thing is even surer. That our music will always about death.
I like horror movies but they are not inspiring me to write a new song or a lyric. As I said before I like to read about some ways to torture people but sometimes even articles about true events are giving me ideas to write lyrics. I also like to read other death metal artists lyrics like Chris Barnes or Chris Reifert. Both of their lyrics are dark and fucked up, it’s great! I have an obsession with methods of torture and grotesque ways of dying. The more savage and harsh, the better.
Thankfully paintings and drawings came back after the abhorrent digital art trend. Musically the current underground scene is really strong. There are loads of great releases every year and loads of new awesome bands. So both the current music and art style are similar to ours.
