Coffin Torture

BLENNOID – BLIND SAMSON
Art: Alex Thorfinn

We are both Christians, and that is our worldview about life in general. As far as music, there is no deep philosophical stuff about what we do. We write heavy riffs. Like cool tattoos, you can get a cool tattoo that doesn’t have to have some elaborate backstory. Just enjoy it. I look at our songs like that.

A cult has such dark connotations. If you are worshipping a band or genre of music, metal or otherwise, that’s not good. Man is a worshipping creature. That’s what we are designed for. Trouble is we worship all the wrong things like money, family, ourselves, our possessions, etc. We’re made to worship God alone. Metal started for me with the normal Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Pantera, but heavy metal got me when I first heard Dog Magic by Zoroaster. I wouldn’t call them idols, but I admire plenty of people, like Tommy Aldridge, Dimebag RIP, Vinnie Paul RIP, and Nick Menza RIP.

I admire Michael Gira from Swans. He’s always done what he’s wanted to do without compromise. He’s made some of the most original music of the last 40 years. I can’t say I would want to be like him, though.

Music has always been a part of my life. My mom is a music teacher, and my dad plays various instruments. It is important to the world because it is one of the greatest gifts from God to mankind. It affects people in an extremely profound way. It can be both a spiritual experience and entertainment.

I love reggae and train graffiti. As far as bands, get Dog Magic by Zoroaster, listen to R.L. Burnside, Black Uhuru, Gary Moore, Pablo Moses, Cro Mags & Junior Kimbrough
