The Cursed Who Perform The Larvagod Rites with Nicklas Andersson
Art: Johnny Dombrowski, Peder Bergstand

Mammoth Volume was formed in the mid-nineties by Nicklas Andersson and Daniel Gustafsson. Soon Nicklas’s older brothers, Jörgen Andersson and Kalle Berlin, joined the band. Mammoth Volume released their debut S/T album in 1999 via The Music Cartel label.

Since Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, etc., started to insert some aspects in their art, something has attracted occult, evil and supernatural events. Music and occultism go so well together somehow, and we also embrace their existence in our music. It is theatrical and entertaining and, at the same time, humorous and uplifting.

In Mammoth Volume, we are pretty spread out regarding religion. Some of us are atheists, and some believe there is something more, a higher power. I can only speak for myself (Nicklas) that religion, in combination with humanity, in my opinion, is the root of all evil. But as they usually say, a modern faith can be a massive security for someone who is lost or seeks comfort in great sadness, while an extreme religious faith is devastating and inhumane.

Doom metal, for me, is the old Swedish band Candlemass, a great band that should have taken themself seriously. I could improve at listening to doom metal, doom, stoner rock, etc. Nowadays. There are too many bands and too many sub-genres to keep track of.

In the past, we used to ‘flirt’ a bit with the drug culture that surrounded stoner rock, but nowadays, we have unconsciously ignored it. Sure, the few videos we make are fuzzy and weird, so maybe the visual part of the ‘stoner’ genre appeals to us; of course, it does.

For me, evil is war, greed, killing, etc., hugely influencing our music. We have a lot of songs about war, demons and other devilish creatures.

Of course, there is goodness in the world. Whenever you help or are kind to a human or animal. Humans will be more intelligent and resistant to aggressive actions in the future. More humble and peaceful. I already notice how my children and their friends handle conflicts and compromise without violence. When I was young, we fought.
