Zos Vel Thagirion by Devathorn
‘Salve Ars Sinistra, Ars Gratia Mortis!’ Devathorn cult manifested during winter 2002, by Saevus H. After several line-up changes, the cult took its present form with the joining of Althagor and Mechblastess. Given a handful of live performances, the band completed the recordings of the debut album, as the cauldrons of inspiration manifested “Diadema”, which came to the light during fall 2007. After a series of several live emanations and forging of the cult’s essence, the Secta Nova split release came in flesh in 2010. Following the aggressive paths of ‘Diadema’ to further borders, the new material is enriched with more sick and raging elements. The devious flame has now grown stronger and the band stirred the cauldrons once more, manifesting the forthcoming full-length opus.
The herald of this malevolence was ‘’418-ATh IAV’’ in 2013 via Third Eye Temple, a glorious alchemical union of Devathorn and Blaze of Perdition, featuring Acherontas V.Priest on guest vocals. The Portals opened wide to manifest utter Qliphotic Madness, as the second full-length opus of the Circle was unveiled under the name of the Sulphur Dragon ‘Vritra’, unleashed by the mighty World Terror Committee. After a multitude of live emanations to celebrate the descend, another hex has been brewed. On December 11th of 2018, Devathorn joins forces with the mighty Inferno and declare the sinister collaboration of ‘Zos Vel Thagirion’, once again under the banners of World Terror Committee.
Devathorn consists of a raging Draconian Covenant, spiritually manipulated by the primordial, pandimensional and lawless Chaos and the ever-flowing Draconian Current. The sole purpose of the Circle is to channel our Inner Flame into art, bearing a musical and lyrical form, feeding the eternal urge of creation and manifestation upon the material plane and beyond. Since the very beginning and to the figure that lies ahead, this task encompasses our expression and Art form.
‘Zos Vel Thagirion’ album is now unleashed upon the material plane via World Terror Committee. The Circles of Devathorn and Inferno call upon the maddening rays of “Zos Vel Thagirion” and the dementia of Sorat, materializing the trance of DRAKON into a sonic amalgam of raging, hysterical mystagogy. A newborn spawn arises from the very depths of dementia, materialized upon this plane and beyond. Extending to a total length of 33 minutes, the spiritual endeavor of Zos Vel Thagirion features the heinous collaborations of Michael Idehall on the Devathorn side and Acherontas V. Priest on the INFERNO side, respectively, while crafted and mastered at Necromorbus Studio and Studio Emissary to become an undisputed aural vessel to the fields above the mundane specters. With artwork penned by the fabled Jose G.A. Sabogal and manipulated by the infamous Mentalporn, this split album is indispensable arsenal in both bands’ grand, girded canons.
Bearing the central lyrical and philosophical flags of Devathorn, the analysis of ‘Zos Vel Thagirion’ would be the ideal description of our views and perspectives towards our lyrical subject and themes, ‘Zos Vel Thagirion. Zos Vel Sorat. Zos Vel Drakon’. A Typhonian dissolving formula and a clavicula animis to the primordial Qliphothic worlds of Ilan Hizon. Within this blazing Sun-shell of Tagaririm, Man becomes Beast and the Beast becomes Man, forged, unified and embodied to become God and beyond God, to surpass the messianic curse and the karmic cycles alike. A Draconian formula that acts and reacts, the golden scimitar of Iblis drenched into the desert madness of Sutekh, flaying the layers of reality and Self to unearth despicable truths. The topaz emerald of the Boddhisatvas, the pyre of the Seers and the palm of the Prophets, the abode of Daemon and the totemic manifestation of Kténos, where the realization becomes consciousness and all dialectics become a sinister, animalistic Glossolalia. An atavistic, bestial incantation of dispute and revolt, a call upon Ba’al-Phagor to lead the path to inner volcanic realms. The assemblage point of apokténosis to apotheosis, the Sun above all Suns, the Eye of DRAKON. LEPACA TAGARIRIM!”
Our lyrical expression derives from a multitude of mythological, spiritual and philosophical currents, bearing the stigma of the Draconian Archetype and the numerous manifestations of the Current across History and Civilization. This could be noted as the only and yet not, in fact, a fixation, rather an astrolabe and a tool to further externalization and experimentation. Musically infected by the orthodox spirit of early black metal madness and several mentors of Renaissance, this dynamic stream of artistic and philosophical influences is poisoning the whole result to a newborn sonic hex.
Metal and black metal, in particular, have been a fiercely rebellious art form in the very beginning, with the term “dangerous” bearing numerous extensions to the listener, while being subjective to the social lens of criticism. They bore a message, for which the listener was thirsty, they offered a vast field of expression and not only musical or cultural. Nowadays, the unstoppable commercialization of all the major metal genres, as well as the most decadent and subcultures, has led to an acceptable form of what it used to be, a form that can be aired and played everywhere within the tyrannical safe zones of the modern society.
The Dark Arts is a vast, unexplored and unmapped field that we all those who are truly seduced by its beauty draw influence and inspiration from. There is and there should not be a certain and specific terminology to describe it since it is straightly connected to the dark, undiscovered side of Man. For the Circle of Devathorn, the Dark Arts symbolize and materialize the Shadow Self of our existence, upon which our Inner Flame burns bright, channelled within our Musical, lyrical and philosophical expression and perspective.
