Godless By Italo Guardieiro & Diego Campos
Hailing from Distrito Federal, Device was formed in 2004, propagating mainly politic and religious critics through the aggressive stamp of thrash and death metal genres. Three years after its formation, the band debuted the EP “Behold Darkness”, whose songs were part of the independent movie “A Capital dos Mortos” (The Capital of The Dead) soundtrack, first Brazilian zombie genre full length. In 2009, the EP was distributed through Europe by Death Toll label. In 2010, the band records it’s first full-length entitled “Antagonistic”, released independently and mastered by Russ Russel. The following record was the EP “Godless” released in 2018 and already distributed in eastern Europe by Narcoleptica Productions label.
The band stays true to its initial goal of making aggressive music with political and religious critics on the current social statement in Brazil (recently overthrown by an unprecedented conservative wave) which fits perfectly with extreme metal as a conductor for the rage and resignation that part of society wants to express somehow.
The songwriting comes mostly from our guitar player and lyrics from the singer, but everyone on the band took part on the shaping, adding ideas, suggestions, in all parts of the production, even in the studio with our sound engineer in 1,2,3,4 studio, which was in all receptive with our conceptions for the album.
The social state is the main inspiration, that is, what we live every day and how it impacts our lives. Also, it comes from the bands we admire, such as Sepultura, Deicide, Slayer and Ratos de Porão, that wrote and still write about those things we grew up listening to, and made our eyes open to observe and question it in our own contexts.
