PARTISAN BY TOM ANGELRIPPER
These are the first songs composed for the ‘Partisan’ EP with the new line-up and I am very satisfied with the result. We wanted to offer the fans the new direction, the improved sound and songwriting and we also promoted the successful Headbangers Ball tour in Europe. It is very important to me, that all the fans realize, that the band keep on going after splitting with the ex-members.
The main topic of the lyrics describes the current state of our world. Bad news every day. Especially when you consider how much the world has changed since the latest album. Sectarian killing, cold war, nuclear armament, the abolition of democracy in many countries, starvation and all the destruction… that inspired my lyrical mindset and fits so perfect to our music. That is sad but true.
The songwriting procedure doesn’t change all over the decades. The guitarists came out with some riffs and ideas. Later we arranged the songs in the rehearsal room. I know, that is very old school, but it is the only way for each musician, to put his own ideas in. I always have a lot of ideas for lyrics and a couple of them are still being written, just before we start writing the music.
Playing live is the biggest inspiration. We are living in a world that is getting more out of control. That makes me sick. All the negative things feed my mind in a positive way cause it inspired me to stay creative in songwriting, lyrics and cover ideas. I know, that I cannot change all the things, because I am not politically active. But have the chance to scream my rage out on stage…that`s like a therapy for me and keeps me surviving in that hard and fast-moving business.
