“I believe in the symbolism that we create every day”
My background includes the academy of fine arts. I was a painter and a decorator before becoming an illustrator. I began to create artworks for bands from three years. At the beginning, it happened realizing tributes for some bands and then making advertising. Then I started to get the first commissions, the first was by a death metal band.
My compositional technique tends to the arcane world of the macabre in general. I think it is very varied in representation, from the realistic to the fantastic. The style changes every time depending on the requests or the idea it evokes. When I have to create something, I know that it is already in my mind, like an innate vision lying in my brain, which just needs an incentive to be put on paper.
My technique is more handcrafted than digital so it’s not easy for me to abandon my hand when I design something. Usually, the use of graphics programs takes place after. For now I use oil painting, acrylic, pen and eco line. When everything is ready, I make changes and layouts on Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
I never acted as an “Artist” in this area, I prefer to consider myself as a part of the audience. I don’t have a vision. I draw from passion and because of it, it allows me to know myself and what I have to give. My luck is being part of this great movement of people, music, and art, so I’m ok with that!
Drawing without music for me is impossible. The connections are infinite, beyond genders, are reciprocal. Think about what happens now with the metal music, or about what happens when we talk about video art and performance. To make the experience better needs to be completed in various ways. Forms of communication are used to amaze, participate and educate the public.
Usually, my imagination is inspired by thousands of thoughts, books, music and lyrics. Above all, I am a devourer of images. Always I spend lots of time to look at them and think of new ideas. Inspiration can come from all over, even in what we do not know and it is inside of us. It can come from all over, even in what we do not know and it is inside of us. You never know when it arrives or about what, can result from a person, a movie, a book or anything.
In art, I’m attracted by preparatory drawings of the great masters or Renaissance, by the unusual contents of artists like Bosch or the improbable details you can find in traditional paintings like the ones by Francesco del Cossa, all the tonal revolutions of the following years, the Realistic and historic painting about real, concrete facts (which purpose is not just to amaze) but also Romanticism and his tales of dreams, nightmares and myths. The great engravers as Escher, Bresdin, Dürer and Doré are a very strong influence for some of my works.
Mondrian, Whistler, Turner and, most of all, my beloved Symbolism for the painting, because it develops also the illustration for the stories and poems by E. A. Poe, Verlaine, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Mallarmé and Gabriele D’Annunzio by artists like Alberto Martini, Giuseppe Cellini, Sartorio, Mario de Maria etc..
I think about “Clearing the Path to ascend” of the band Yob or “Further” of the band Solace, but at the moment I have various preferences, Glyn Smyth above all.
