Currents by Sindre Nedland
In Vain is a progressive extreme metal band from Norway. They have released four studio albums and two eps. The band consists of guitarist Johnar Haaland, guitarist Kjetil D. Pedersen, bass player Alexander Bø, drummer Tobias Øymo Solbakk, singer Andreas Frigstad and singer Sindre Nedland. Our latest release ‘Currents’ it is a very diverse album full of contrasts and has high-quality music with longevity. The album continues where Ænigma left off I would say, but there are some differences. The production is more organic, there are some shorter songs and it is less black metal compared with our previous releases. Since its inception, the band has developed its own trademark sound through extensive exploration and seamless combination of musical genres, and I would argue that Currents goes to new extremes when it comes to further develop this approach.
Songwriting and recording is always a long and hard process. Many obstacles to overcome, and we literally put blood sweat and tears into making an album. The song «Blood we Shed» is actually about this very subject. We are six people with different interests and influences both musically and with art in general, so we are all probably influenced by the art we enjoy to some extent, but I have no concrete examples of direct influences on this album.
