Intense and stimulating
I have been studying scenic painting at the Art School of Dresden for 4 years. Initially I designed band covers and t-shirts as well as large backdrops. Within my studies I got the opportunity to improve my skills and create large scale artworks by using innovative techniques. I use oil and acrylic colours for canvas paintings. For graphical tasks I prefer ink, pencil, coal or chalk and I like to draw and to paint without any software or computer.
Bands sometimes give an indication about a topic or for a special atmosphere, but it is very important for me to contribute and realize my own Ideas. There is always an initial discussion with the band, of course. My intention is to intensely feel the artwork without destroying the sense of the picture by long tiring explanation. Themes are made to shock, stimulate to think about it or stay unexplained.
I often enjoy literature about mythological topics as well as books about the history of arts. For me, especially the old masters respectively the Symbolists and Romantics are very precious, because they succeed in combining light, the exalted and the purity coupled with darkness, sin and death. I regard them as my best teachers.
My main sources of inspiration are the old masters, especially regarding their painting techniques. Additionally I’m inspired by films, especially avant-garde, independent or silent movies. Finally, classical music like Mozart or Nicholas Lens have an inspiring effect. I exhibited at the Wave Gotik Treffen (WGT) in Leipzig. My next exhibition will be at the Melting Sound Festival in cooperation with my fellow artist Certa Sculptura.
Finally there is certainty: after many weeks of hard work, I present you the finished status of my homage to C.D.Friedrichs painting “Klosterfriedhof im Schnee” (monastery cemetery in the snow). This painting was destroyed during the Second World War. It exists only a black-and-white photography. I painted this picture in the manner of Friedrichs painting technique. It combines my intuition to feel within and to empathize with things and objects.
