Serge: I started playing the guitar when I was 13 and drums at 16. I’ve been into heavy metal music since I was 8 years old. I’ve played in many bands since I was 15. The most notable bands that I played for were Haxxan and Necrophagia.
Danielle: I’ve loved classic rock from an early age and I started playing the guitar when I was 9 and fell in love with it. Then in high school, I went on to play in a program called “School of Rock” that had students learn classic rock songs and then perform them together at shows, which was awesome. That really gave me the confidence I needed in my guitar skills, as well as vocals. Then in college, I received a minor in music and learned tons of theory and classical guitar. Then in my second year of college, I met Serge and we formed Automb.
The record came together rather quickly after releasing our debut album ‘Esoterica’. While we were rehearsing and playing shows for said album, Serge was writing the material. There was a pause of only a few months between the writing sessions for Esoterica and Chaosophy. We wanted to outdo the previous album and we wanted to showcase more power and aggression. While also focusing more on darker themes.
The recording was done in 2 studios. I and Danielle recorded our parts at our home studio and Scott record at his in Oregon. We weren’t able to physically work together with Scott because of distance. He lives on the other side of the country. So most of the work was done through phone calls and sending each other demos back and forth.
We think there’s a lot of spirituality involved in metal and we are not talking about organized religions. There are a lot of pagan bands and also left-hand path ones. That takes it to the next level. Metal is about connecting with something more than just the physical.
Our music is our life work. It is the most important thing in our lives. Without the audience, it wouldn’t have all that much meaning. It gives us more meaning when people actually enjoy it and connect with it. It points out the hypocrisy in things like organized religions. It represents freedom in a way by pointing out lies. Metal calls out certain beliefs instead of blindly accepting them. It’s always in constant opposition to the norm.
