Fate’s Hand

Fate’s Hand

SELF TITLED FATE’S HAND
Art: Paolo Girardi

With the roar of parting waves and the call of a thousand ravens, Australian heavy metal thunders into a new being bearing the ever-ominous moniker Fate’s Hand. Expect less, and your life is forfeit. Fate’s Hand draw the first sword.

Creative rituals? When the ideas come, I like writing first thing in the morning—and striking while the iron’s hot! As far as rituals go, I find writing the music binding enough. We drink beer and make barbarian heavy metal. We forge our own path. Nodding to the legends and hopefully adding something of interest to old warriors and young.

Metal is total cult worship. For me, learning drums and guitar started with bands like Metallica, ACDC, Slayer and Sepultura. I moved on to death and black metal in my later teens and was off and running. I really enjoy the lyric style and execution of King Diamond, Rob Halford and DIO. Guitar wise, Priest, Maiden, The Young Brothers, Quorthon and Randy Rhoads.

Any fetishes? No mate, just grind hard and not too much piss! Any people who seem to have a genius-level talent for creativity that transcend the norm in the scene? I do mate. I listened to a lot of classical and jazz in my 20s. More the off, gloomier stuff. The voicing and structures have definitely informed the music I write. A few names stand out: Chopin, Liszt, Bartok and Wayne Shorter. I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, it definitely releases an energy that could be more negatively expressed otherwise. I certainly would, mate. We are Defenders of the faith!

Music outside metal that I enjoy, a bit of electro-pop, Synth and traditional folk music creeps its way into the playlist. Some great artists from these worlds are Dead Can Dance, Molchat Doma, Wardruna, Arcana and Kulgrinda.
