The Uprising of Namwell By Cyril
Imagine a time when there were three worlds: Firë-Enmek, the land of Mortals and land of suffering; Namwell, a land of bliss and harmony; and Meldral-Nok, a cursed land where only chaos and fire prevailed. Welcome to the universe created by Lord Shades. The band’s music doesn’t merely consist in a simple guitar, bass and drums trio: it develops and expands into a concept evolving around genuinely original compositions that mix gloomy moods with epic atmospheres, symphonic orchestrations with traditional music, melancholy tunes with ruthless blast beats. Lord Shades’ work then results in a dark and powerful black and death metal. Its refined orchestrations, choirs and sound effects give unique scope to the whole, and the numerous guests that enrich each track are also part and parcel of the band’s identity and originality. After The Downfall of Firë-Enmek and The Rise of Meldral-Nok, Lord Shades proudly present their third album, the very last part that puts an end to the trilogy. This is where Lord Shades’ amazing journey ends, a journey that is at the centre of an original tale worthy of a timeless saga.
Our music is an alchemy between heavy and devastating death metal and sharp black metal, accompanied by various orchestrations and atmospheres, which gives this colour so particular to Lord Shades. The range of our music is extensive. You can hear either oriental passages, folk or more fundamental in the style of death/black metal.
‘The Uprising of Namwell’ is our third album, it closes a trilogy. This album, like the two previous ones, tells the story of the warrior Lord Shades. You can see the entirety of the lyrics and concept on our website. The writing process goes through several phases. Alex usually composes the songs that are then reworked with the band. The lyrics are written by our lyricist “Laurent Barbari” who takes care of respecting a scheme that we develop together. The samples, sound effects and orchestrations are written and arranged by “Olivier Perrin”. Sometimes, he uses what Alex (singer/bassist) has already written during the composition as a work base.
Our lyrics are based on heroic fantasy. They tell the journey of the warrior Lord Shades in search of his carnal envelope. The lyrics of our three albums form a trilogy, all albums follow each other, as for example the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien. The artwork is directed by Stan W-Decker. He illustrates the atmosphere of the album and always incorporates images related to what the songs tell. He tries to transcribe in the picture the meaning of each song.
Our main theme remains the heroic fantasy. Being all fans of this genre, it was natural that we based our inspiration on it. We have created our universe, our characters, everything that is told in our albums, was imagined for creating our story. If we had to tell you what inspires us, I would essentially say; literature and fantastic movies.
Many groups are similar; their theme is often the same. It gets harder and harder to discover new things in metal. Fortunately, some bands manage to do so, however, generally speaking, the majority of bands sounds the same. The aesthetics of groups take more and more space. It is normal to have a visual coherent with what is played, but I find that it becomes a fashion overall. The music sometimes goes in the background. Concerning us, I think that we remain quite sober in term of costumes. We would like to put more emphasis on pyrotechnics during the concerts to create an atmosphere of adequacy with our songs.
We do not believe in much; only the desire to discover and do what we want, live in us. Why wanting to believe? Personally, I scratched this word from my vocabulary. Believing in something without ever having the proof, seems for me somewhere wrong.
