Across Deaths by M.B.
A sum of our influences and personalities. Have obvious traits of the music we listen to and love but hopefully throw our own inept madness into it as well. Crazy amount of music and styles that we listen to individually as batshit crazy music lovers. Every twinge of lunacy you hear from Tom Waits to techno. Every bit of music that you hear, every weird scenario that you encounter, mad story you hear that interests you become influences be it consciously or subconsciously. Love weird music. Metal-wise, Finland is always as daft as you’ll hear in most genres of heavy music Reverend Bizarre, Drawing Down The Moon (personally don’t know any other Beherit), Unholy, Ride For Revenge, Archgoat, Demilich. Norway has the obvious legends in the lords of chaos but anything that Carl-Michael Eide is involved with is wonky and genius from Kronet til konge through VBE, Virus, Void and just this year I got into Aura Noir. That last album is great. CME and Blasphemer playing Voivod over the coolest fucking drummer in years. New Oblliteration is perfect and that guys drums are always recorded with such character. Also Morbid Angel, Immolation, My Dying Bride, Mourning Beloveth and Planxty.
Just something that sits well. We had some of the fast bits from Telluric Tongues in The Gloom Epoch for months and one day figured we all play in doom bands, why not doom the fuck out of it. The intention then was to finish the album with the schizoid madness of something like Expanse and with the first three riffs of Telluric rehomed from Gloom Epoch, we wrote the song in an afternoon. Gonna be a completely different process now cause Andy’s gone but looking forward to seeing where it goes. It’ll be interesting cause Andy has a banjaxed mind for timings and weirdness and I’m more straight forward but it won’t venture too far from madness.
Initially, I used to bring riffs and then we’d mangle them at practice but for the album we, Me and Andy, wrote and played more together than we ever had. Play something to Johnny and it just takes off. I think we were trying to get anyway from lazy Portal comparisons. Looking forward to seeing where myself and T go writing-wise. We share a very similar taste in riffs so looking forward to that.
