Shadow Syndicate By Travis Weickum
Firmly rooted in the death metal spectrum, USA’s Skinned have since their inception in 1995, always combined styles to create their very own kind of Extreme Metal by twisting and re-shaping sub-genres, the result is a unique mix of traditional Death Metal, dark Doom soundscapes, hyper blasts, Black Metal dramatic grotesquery and heavy slams. This monstrous band’s ability to invoke innumerable extremes to create some of the heaviest, most epic, dark and brutal brands of death metal is impressive. From their debut demo to present, the level of progression and diversification is vast and seemingly unstoppable.
This new album is the product of what we naturally felt would put the listener into the state of mind in relation to what the songs were about. We changed up our writing process a bit on this album because we want each album we do to take the listener down a different path instead of repeating the same thing over and over. We tried to capture the feel of anger, darkness, craziness, scariness, mysterious, and uncertainty.
The songs on this album range from conspiracy theories, secret societies, and alien abduction. The artwork relates to the secret societies and the pain and suffering they have caused the human race. We all like movies, yes, but as far as fixations, in the past we have gone just about every way possible on the topics you listed. nowadays we just get inspiration from life itself and what’s going on around us. I think its all great and that it’s all come a long way. there are so many directions and outlets these days for bands to be as creative as they can be.
To me, belief is something someone needs to keep them going and give them some feeling of hope outside of what is in their control or reality. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword for me. I see it give some people strength while I see it hold others back from experiencing life and for others even at times can make them weak and easy targets for predators. I’m not a religious person but I do believe in aliens.
