Forge the Future with Spirit Adrift
I just try to write the best songs I can write. Usually, I will demo a song and then tweak it for a long time until I feel in my gut that it’s “right”. Then we record it in a proper studio, and there you have it.
I’m fascinated by all types of philosophy, religion, spirituality, and belief systems. I grew up in the American South’s Bible Belt, and that never appealed to me. However, I’m probably more interested in biblical stories and archetypes now than I was then. I’ve been through phases of atheism, agnosticism, nihilism, hedonism, and everything in between. I’ve studied and practised everything from chaos magick to Buddhism. It’s all exciting and carries power if you believe in it. At this point in my life, the belief system that best serves me is Stoicism. It is realistic, practical, and logical, resulting in the best quality of life for me.
Hendrix got me into guitar, and Black Sabbath got me into heavy music. I happened to see a video for “Paranoid” on the VH1 classic when I was about 12 or 13 years old, and it was all over. Since then, I’ve dedicated every waking moment of my life to music, specifically metal.
Music is one of my favourite things about being alive. I love it as much as I love anything in the human experience. It’s sacred to me. It’s not sacred to everybody, as many people whore it out as a product or blindly listen to whatever’s popular in the current fad. But it is sacred to me. Spirit Adrift’s music is for people who feel the same way.
