Iron & Blood by Jonathan ‘Skullcrusher’ Sager
Valle Crucis has quickly grown into a force to be reckoned with in the USBM underground scene, Valle Crucis has introduced a new era of black metal in the South Carolina scene since mid-2016. The group consists of vocalist/guitarist Skullcrusher and drummer Ashriel, forming an unmerciful, pure act of damnation. The music has been described as having the gut-wrenching riffs in the style of Marduk mixed with seductive melodic passages. With a powerful stage sound to match the intensity of the music, the duo creates an experience the unleashes hell to the masses. Pure. Raw. Destructive. Violent. Black Metal.
‘Iron & Blood’ is our debut full-length release. We recorded the record with Joshua Freemon of Hellgoat at Dead Sound Studio, then had it mixed and mastered by James Barile at Ethereal Sound Studio and was released on November 8th, 2018 via Pagan Pride Records in the US and just last month, January 25 via Narcoleptica Productions in Russia.
My songwriting process is weird, at least to me. I’m not able to jam and just make stuff up on the fly very well. So my method is to sit down to come up with different riff, progressions and transitions, tweak and re-write or arrange as I’m going along. I’ll come in to practice with full songs written.
As for the recording process, it overall took only a few days. Drums recorded in 2-3, then knock out guitars, bass and vocals in 1-2 days. I don’t like to make mistakes in the recording process, so I come in prepared and do the number of takes that need to be done for the recording.
There’s a number on inspirations with newer stuff we’re working on. One that made it to the ‘Iron & Blood’ record is a song called ‘March of the Night’ which is about the white walkers from Game of Thrones. I like a lot of the darker aspects of the books and tv show. A lot of dark sci-fi/fantasy I like too, not so much with the writing of Valle Crucis, but use in some other projects.www.facebook.com/ValleCrucisBlackMetal
