Progeny Of The Fallen One by Dominique Verreault
Coming from Finland, this band would already be a worldwide phenomenon… Coming from Québec, Canada, where this type of metal isn’t really popular amongst bands, Wrath Of Echoes, needs to be a spectacular band to compete with the Barren Earth and Swallow the Sun of this planet… and compete they will, on every level. The new album is a spectacular progressive Doom / Death metal masterpiece and one that would fit perfectly well within the aforementioned band’s discographies.
Heavy, dark, moody… all the elements are there to make this great local band featuring members of Doom’s Day and Daedalean Complex, one of the best new band in this particular progressive metal style, not only locally, but on an international level.
Progeny Of The Fallen One is our first full album and it’s a blend of doom metal and death metal, with a melodic touch. Our goal was to create songs that have a lot of texture and feeling to them while including heaviness and a little bit of brutality when needed.
The songwriting was done over a year, on and off, as we all have other bands. We mostly exchange ideas over the internet, little bits and pieces of music. Then we get together and make songs out of them. We arrive in the studio and the songs are mostly all completed. However, for the song ‘Where All Dreams Die’, we only had the piano done and everything else was improvised in the studio. This was unusual for us and a really fun thing to do.
The artwork is really capturing the feel of the album. It’s dark and eerie and melancholic. We had to have a cover that suited that. It’s also inspired by the main theme of the album. It was based on only the lyrics and the general idea of the theme, as barely any music was completed when it was made. Since the album came out in December 2018 and that we have to deliver the cover to the label by December 2017, for publicity purposes, it really influenced the songs.
