Heavy Metal Fanzine Artworks celebrates the visual culture of the underground metal fanzine movement. Emerging during the 1980s and early 1990s demo-tape trading era, fanzines became a vital communication network for the global metal underground. Alongside DIY gigs, flyers and tape trading, these publications connected fans, bands and artists long before the internet existed.
Presented across two volumes, each book contains approximately 250 full-colour pages, with one fanzine cover reproduced per page. Across both volumes, the collection features around 500 heavy metal fanzine covers from around the world, capturing the raw graphic styles and DIY aesthetics that defined the era.
The books also include commentary from Heavy Music Artwork, reflecting on the artistic approaches and cultural importance of these underground publications.
